Mumby Heppenstall

About Us

At Mumby Heppenstall we offer all the services you would expect of a professional firm, but with a distinctive flavour. We have made a conscious decision to remain small and focused so that we can provide a personal, prompt, high quality and cost effective service to clients which larger firms sometimes find hard to deliver.

We specialise in advising small/medium sized enterprises keen to maximise their potential. With considerable commercial experience gained in industry combined with professional expertise gained in practice we believe we can better understand the problems faced by owner managers and entrepreneurs. There may be no easy answers, but we do have the advantage of being able to see the wood from the trees, or even sometimes ask the blindingly obvious question which might just trigger that ‘eureka’ moment.

At Mumby Heppenstall we try to look at each assignment from a commercial perspective, identifying opportunities for profit growth and improved cashflow management. We have excellent contacts with a wide range of banks and other sources of funding and advise on a whole range of issues from business start-ups and company sales to specialist support for businesses experiencing financial difficulties.

The firm was established by Jeremy Mumby in 1995. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and an associate member of the Institute of Management Consultants, he trained in Nottingham before joining international firm BDO Binder Hamlyn in London. After a year with BDO in Melbourne, Australia, he returned to London as financial controller of a Middle East investment company. In the mid 1980s he set up a consultancy advising on venture capital opportunities for financial institutions such as the British Technology Group. Through this he became involved with a number of high technology companies, spending four years as managing/finance director of an electronics company. In 1993 he moved back into professional practice to head up the Nottingham office of Mazars Neville Russell. He set up his own practice in 1995 and has built the firm while also undertaking a number of consultancy assignments and non executive directorships. He has extensive practical experience in the problems faced by fast growing entrepreneurial companies.

Clare Heppenstall joined the firm in 2001 after 12 years with a large independent firm of Chartered Accountants in Lincoln. She gained a degree in Land Economy at Cambridge University before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1992, becoming a Fellow of the Institute in 2002. Clare specialises in advising farmers and a broad range of smaller businesses, including clubs and charities. She also advises on general tax planning and looks after the affairs of a number of high net worth individuals.

The firm is supported by a network of specialist advisors and subcontractors who can be called upon to assist as and when the need arises.
